Immigration Project

A Project of the University of Arizona’s Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy
About the Program
Immigration has become one of the most pressing and contentious issues in the United States, particularly in states along the U.S.-Mexico border. Immigration is an issue urgently in need of intelligent discussion so that policy makers, journalists and leaders in all sectors can better understand the many complexities of addressing this important public policy question.
Economics is key to dealing with this vitally important issue. This project will provide an objective, analytical understanding of immigration through economics.
Objectives
The underlying objectives of this project are, first, to educate a broad spectrum of stakeholders and policy makers on the range of issues related to immigration, and also to work toward creating a more constructive atmosphere in which to make the difficult tradeoffs involved in setting immigration policy. While we understand that such policy-making is inherently a political process, it is our hope that the availability of thoughtful, credible information and analysis of this complex issue will help to diffuse the highly partisan nature of the current debate and contribute to formulating policies that are realistic, enforceable, and in keeping with American ideals.
Partners
Launched with the financial support of the Thomas R. Brown Foundations, The Communications Institute has teamed with the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy at the University of Arizona to launch this project.
