National Symposium on Terrorism Risk Insurance

Oct. 7, 2005
Cannon House Office Building, Caucus Room,
Washington, D.C.

Several hundred leaders from government and business convened in the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, Oct. 7, 2005, for The National Symposium on Terrorism Risk Insurance. Some of the nation’s leading experts on insurance and risk presented key principles that could guide public policy decisions on the future of terrorism risk insurance in the United States.

The symposium took an objective look at the future of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) as the United States Congress debates its future. The event was sponsored by Wharton, RAND, USC, The Communications Institute, and Congressional Quarterly.

The experts analyzed policy regarding terrorism, risk management and insurance and the effort to protect the lives and property of Americans. In addition to the scholars from Wharton, RAND, and USC, Doug Holtz-Eakin, Director of the Congressional Budget Office and Hemant H. Shah, President & CEO of Risk Management Solutions, Inc., participated in the discussion. They provided their insight on steps that Congress and the Administration could take in concert with the private sector to develop a long term plan to provide insurance to confront the terrorist threat facing the nation.
